Are Water-Proof Smartphones Really Water Proof

Keyword: Smartphone

Meta: Are you looking for a water proof smartphone? If yes then here are few things to know the buying phone is really waterproof or not!

If you’re worried about dropping your smartphone in the toilet or spilling a glass of water on it at dinner, you might start looking for a waterproof smartphone. While it’s not easy to find in-depth information about how waterproof smartphones are even from the manufacturers themselves we’ve put together some tips that will help you sort facts from fiction.

1. Are smartphones waterproof?

Many smartphones now come with an IP rating which means they are water and dust resistant. This rating is given by a standard called Ingress Protection (IP). The IP rating is based on test results for a device and how well it can resist water and dust. The IP rating scale goes from 0 to 8. 0 means no protection and 8 means the device is completely protected. There are no junk IP ratings out there, but there are certain levels of water resistance that are quite popular and claim to offer slightly more protection.

Water-resistant smartphones use a rating of 2 or more instead of one. A smartphone with a rating of 2 is completely water-resistant and offers general protection against objects getting in through the ports (such as nosebleeds or splashes), while a smartphone with a rating of 3 means that it is fully submersible. Most decent smartphones fall in the 3–5 range. The trouble is that these ratings mean nothing when it comes to the real-life use of the smartphone. Of course, a smartphone is useful in flowing liquid, but it may not be of much use at sitting in a lake (e.g., 1.5–2 minutes for the object to get in through the main port). What does “water-resistant” really mean in the real world? The claim of being water-resistant is not legally enforceable and it does not make the smartphone more water-friendly, according to Don Samuel, a San Diego case lawyer.

2. How do different smartphone manufacturers test for water resistance?

All smartphone manufacturers test for water resistance in a slightly different way. Some use a machine to test the resistance of the smartphone, while others use a real person. The Samsung Galaxy S7, for example, is tested for water resistance using a person wearing an oxygen mask. This doesn’t mean you should be worried about your smartphone lasting forever — some don’t even have an IP rating, which means they’re not necessarily waterproof — but it does mean you should be more aware of how it performs underwater. Waterproof phones tend to have either IPX4 or IPX7 ratings.

The lower the number the better, however, there are certain situations where a lower rating does not provide a lot of protection. IP ratings are also not permanent and after a certain amount of time may lower to an IPX2 rating. Taking a look at some of the most recent Samsung Galaxy phones equipped with 1 or 2 meters of water resistance, all but the Galaxy S9+ feature a submersible mode under a burst of water for up to 30 minutes.

The Galaxy S9 had no submersible mode, and only the Galaxy S9+ and S10 have a pressure-sensitive door with a countdown when submerged. It would be better to see Samsung invest in a button on its now-expired Galaxy S8+ to turn on its water-resistance or develop a pressure-sensitive door in its next flagships. Unfortunately, there still isn’t any way to apply a splash or pressure sensor to a case.

3. Can you use your smartphone in the shower? Will it work after getting wet?

The answer is yes, you can use your smartphone in the shower. But, it may not be a great idea to get it wet. The best way to protect your smartphone is to put it in a waterproof case, and if you’re not going to be using it, don’t take it in the shower with you. Water-proofed smartphones have a drastically higher rating than non-waterproofed smartphones. While there has been some confusion as to whether water-resistant smartphones are waterproof, in reality, the specs sheet you get for a smartphone with water resistance isn’t all that different from a non-water-resistant smartphone. Both models will retain their functionality and functionality. But if they’re submerged in water for a prolonged period. It may lose functionality.

According to the International Water Sports Federation (British Sports Association), the following activities are not considered in their water-resistance ratings as Hiking, surfing, competitive swimming, competitive ice hockey, open water swimming, and mountain climbing Parks, beaches, rivers, creeks, lakes, ponds, shallow ditches or other bodies of water with water originating primarily from rain, rivers, streams, or similar-flowing phenomena Most showers, when not contaminated by human or industrial waste, are not considered to be dangerous or able to damage the electronics inside a smartphone, and neither is swimming. Hence, any smartphone can be safely used in a shallow pool, lakes, or other natural bodies of water provided it has sufficient protection from water splashes.

4. What is the difference between water-resistant and waterproof?

Water-resistant means that a product is protected against rain or splashes of water. But it’s not guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. On the other hand, means that a product will stay completely protected from water. Even if you go swimming or stay in water for a long period. The best waterproof phone is the one that can allow you to do everything you need without worrying.

You need a phone that can allow you to take calls during a shower or use the restroom without affecting the phone’s waterproof status. The only time you should use a waterproof phone is if your life is actually in danger. Many phone models are advertised as waterproof, only for a limited time. That means if you buy one, try using it for a few months before investing in a more durable alternative.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced a new lineup of Galaxy S series phones that come with IP 67 certification. This certification means that the devices can survive showers and swim in up to six meters (19 ft) of water for 30 minutes.  When it comes to in-depth information on how good a product’s IP rating is, there isn’t much.

We can, however, tell you what to expect from each brand and piece of technology. It’s important to note that there is no guarantee that a smartphone will meet these standards. In addition, some models may not qualify for a given certification, and other models may be entirely underwater. Check with the manufacturer before purchasing a new phone to make sure its features will work in your environment. Right now, it seems like good old TCL might be your best bet for a good, waterproof smartphone. The Taiwanese cell phone manufacturer offers the IP68 certification on its top-tier smartphones and tablets.

5. Which smartphones are rated to IPX7 standards (the most waterproof) and which ones aren’t?

The IPX7 rating means that the phone has been put through a series of tests to ensure it is waterproof. Phone of IPX7 is able to be submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The IPX7 rating means that the phone is waterproof but that doesn’t mean it’s completely waterproof. It means that the phone could potentially get wet, but it’s designed to stay completely dry. How does that help you? Because choosing a smartphone with a trusted IPX rating will help you protect your investment.

You might have to put up with a few water drops falling on your smartphone. it doesn’t have a wireless charging feature, but the company claims that it has 3-hour battery life. You should be able to get through a full workday without needing to charge it up.

Whether your planet-saving smartphone is waterproof or not, you should be mindful of how it’s being used. Don’t put it in a case if your phone is capable of inking without one. And try and stick to well-lit areas. Because having a dark background on your smartphone can cause it to not get as bright.
