You must be curious about what graphics card you have on your laptop or desktop PC. Well, it’s not a big deal to find out which graphics card you have or which GPU model you’re using. Sometimes when users install software or games, they often face some notifications regarding their graphics unit processor. The software they install uses some specific functions of the GPU, like the resolution, fps, etc.

And this is when we search for the details of our graphics card, whether it is a laptop or a desktop PC. Now let’s move on to the tips and tricks to find out the GPU of your computer.

What is Graphics Card?

Before we proceed on to how to know your graphics card, you should understand what it is and its usage. Let me ask you a question – have you ever wondered how you get the screen output on your PC? This is where the GPU works. It gives the display output of the CPU to the users allowing them to understand what’s going on inside their computer.

Generally, there are two types of graphics cards – one that comes integrated with the processor (Ex: Intel UHD 770, Radeon Vega RX 7) and the other that we install in the expansions of the motherboard (Ex: RTX 3080 Ti, AMD Radeon RX 580). While the first one is capable enough for 4k video, normal graphical work, and balanced gaming, the second one is for high-end gaming, heavy graphical tasks and editing. For video editing and high-end gaming, Nvidia RTX 3080 ti is the best card. If you don’t have such a high budget, then you may look for the Nvidia GTX series.

Graphics cards are mainly used for graming, 3d modelling and designing and other heavy graphical tasks. Although, nowadays people are using premium graphics cards for mining cryptocurrencies. How to Check The Graphics Card Of Your PC

There is more than one method to know what graphics card you’re using on your PC. Here we’ve penned downed some of the easy tricks to find out your GPU and its manufacturer.

1. Device Manager

Open “Device Manager” by simply typing it on the option search in Windows. Now click on the “Display Adapters” option from the drop-down options. Here you’ll find the graphics card of your computer.

Now if you want to know about the manufacturer of your GPU follow the steps. Right-click on the graphics card ( Ex: Radeon RX 580, Nvidia Geforce GTX 980) and go to Properties. You’ll get all the information about your GPU.

Note: The “Device Manager” shows this information based on the GPU drivers of your computer.

2. Task Manager

Using the Task Manager, you can also get information about your GPU. To open the “Task Manager” on Windows 10 or 11 right-click on the start menu or the taskbar. Then select the task manager option. Either way, you can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to access the task Manager.

Now select the “Performance” tab at the top-level options. And then click on “GPU 0” which will show you the graphics card’s name and its ongoing tasks.

3. DirectX Diagnostic Tool

You can also see your GPU details using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool on Windows. At first, open Run on your computer by pressing the Windows key + R or right-clicking on the start to open it.

Type “dxdiag” into the Run window and click ‘OK’ or press enter to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Now click on the “Display” tab from the top-level options. It will show the graphics card’s name and manufacturer.
